A percentage indicator on the zoom slider would do perfectly. The "Edit" approach is just a suggestion to keep it simple for them if they prefer not to do too much.
OK, so go into the Feedback Hub and make it an enhancement request. You can get there either via the Start Menu or under See More in the app's upper right corner. To make the slider less cluttered, do you think it would be fine to omit numbers and simply have vertical lines of different lengths like a ruler? I just did.
